Why should you fight drug possession charges?

On Behalf of | Jun 22, 2017 | Drug Charges

Whenever you face a drug charge, the consequences can be enormous. Now only must you possibly contend with jail time and heavy fines, a drug conviction on your record can close many doors in the future or strip you of important opportunities.

Many people in college assume “everybody does drugs in college, it’s no big deal.” While it is true that some people may know the right person to get the charges swept under the rug, for most of us, facing drug charges can change the course of our educational and professional careers for years to come.

If you are a college student attending school on a scholarship, a drug conviction can revoke that scholarship and leave you on the hook for tuition. Furthermore, some schools have anti-drug policies that force students to leave for the semester, and many of these students never come back.

Even if you avoid jail time, you may face difficulty finding work, with or without a degree. Many employers refuse to hire individuals with drug convictions, and many rental companies refuse to rent to those with drug convictions on their records. In some cases, you may even face difficulty securing insurance.

The weight of a drug conviction can weigh you down and make it very difficult to live the best life you can live.

If you don’t want to jeopardize your entire future, you should always fight drug charges. You deserve the opportunity to live a healthy, productive life and to keep your rights protected. With proper legal counsel, you can form a strong strategy to fight for your future.
